Christmas

I thought nothing would be more appropriate for a Christmas Eve post, than what Christmas means to me. Seeing as how Christmas Eve is on a Saturday, which is posting day, the post has got to be the best and most Christmassy it can be!

  1.    The first thing that I think about, when I think about Christmas, is Christ. His name is literally in Christmas, and why we began to celebrate it long ago. Jesus truly is the reason for the season. He came to this world, that was in such need of His coming, two thousand years ago, and fulfilled every prophecy that the Messiah and Savior was meant to. He came humbly, born in a stable, amongst the most unlikely of company that would normally accompany royalty, let alone the King of the universe: animals, shepherds, the little town of Bethlehem. And He came to redeem us all from ourselves, from sin, from Death itself.
  2.    Family! Such an important part of Christmas. A time to prepare for Christmas -- decorate the tree, decorate the house. A time when we come together to reflect on the Savior's birth, the year, and make special memories. I have so many wonderful memories with my family over the years, and am so excited for more this year.
  3.    Friends... Church friends, school friends, old friends, new friends. Going on little Christmassy adventures, recalling our favourite memories together, making new ones.
  4.    Gift-giving. As we remember the greatest Gift of all, Jesus and His salvation, we give gifts to others in this example, and shower each other with little blessings. I hate to shop all year round, but when Christmas comes, I enjoy going all out and picking out little meaningful gifts for my friends and family.
  5.    And lastly, but certainly not least, the sugar on top, the icing on the cake: Christmas songs and movies and decorations!! Christmas carols get us in the spirit, as well as all the decorations that make our homes so cosy and special. The movies to pop on in the evenings as a lovely way to finish off the day with family and/or friends. I just think they add that extra bit of Christmas and help make it all the more special.
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! (And a Happy New Year!!)
